Mary Watson wins!

The polls closed at 10pm on Thursday 22 May and the ballots were counted on Friday 23rd. The results in the council election in Whalley Range on a turnout of just under 40% were:

CANDELAND, Mary Green Party 883
GRANT, John Liberal Democrats 475
HOSSAIN, Shahed Conservative and Unionist Party 284
WATSON, Mary Labour Party 2,959

Keeping in touch

Trefor and Janet at the doorstepSince the beginning of last year, Mary Watson and the Labour team have knocked on nearly 3,000 doors in the Whalley Range and Chorlton area and managed to speak to over a thousand people, taking up their local concerns. Mary Watson is Labour’s candidate for Whalley Range ward in the local elections in Manchester, which are on Thursday 22nd May. She says:

I came to live in Manchester many years ago and have lived very happily with my family in Whalley Range for most of the time since.
I was first elected as Labour Councillor for our area eight years ago and I’m very proud that I’ve been selected again for this year’s election. Local post office shifts up a gear

Councillor Mary Watson recalls that not so long ago local people were worried that the post office would be closing. She said “With the support of local residents and our MP, the post office was kept open and continues to thrive. The improvements are great and I’m sure that there is more to come”. Continue reading
