Vote Labour tomorrow – for Bano and Andy Burnham

Vote Bano for Whalley Range

Tomorrow (Thursday) is polling day, and polling stations are open until 10pm. In Whalley Range you can vote for two Labour candidates – Muqaddasah Bano as ward councillor and Andy Burnham as Mayor of Greater Manchester.

  • You don’t need your polling card to vote – just go to your polling station and give them your name and address
  • Polls are open until 10pm
  • If you’ve got a postal vote but haven’t sent it back yet, you can complete the voting pack and take the sealed envelope to any polling station in the city before 10pm

Mayoral election (but no by-election) next Thursday

As a result of the government calling a General Election for Thursday 8 June, the parliamentary by-election for the vacant seat of Manchester Gorton has been cancelled. The seat will of course be contested as part of the General Election, with Afzal Khan standing for the Labour Party.
But the GMCA Mayoral election is taking place this coming Thursday 4 May, with Andy Burnham as the Labour Party candidate. Many people are (quite understandably) confused about election dates following the government announcement, so it’s very important to remind your (Labour supporting!) friends, work colleagues, family and neighbours that this election is still happening, and that they need to turn out and vote. Postal voters will already have received their voting packs and should complete and return them as soon as possible.

Brexit: What now for Britain in Europe?

Afzal Khan MEP invites all Whalley Range Labour members to a special event at the British Muslim Heritage Centre on Friday 27th January at 7pm. As well as Afzal himself, the meeting will be attended by Andy Burnham MP who of course is Labour’s candidate for the forthcoming Greater Manchester mayoral election in May. Afzal says “I would like to invite you to come along and discuss with fellow party members how Labour should approach Brexit and what the challenges are for the UK.” Continue reading
