After the count, held today in the Central Convention Centre, Angeliki said “I’m really grateful to the people of Whalley Range for electing me as their representative on the City Council again and I hope I can repay their trust.”

2 elections – local tomorrow and Euro on 23 May

The local election of councillors to Manchester City Council takes place tomorrow, on Thursday 2 May. Our Labour and Co-operative Party candidate is Angeliki Stogia, who is standing for a fourth term as councillor in Whalley Range.

Also, due to the Conservative government’s continued failure to negotiate an acceptable Brexit deal, the UK did not leave the EU in March and the country will now hold elections to the European Parliament. These take place on Thursday 23 May (three weeks later than the locals) and are completely separate.

Unlike tomorrow’s, there is still time to register to vote for the Euro elections if you aren’t already on the electoral register but you need to do it by next Tuesday (7th). If you’re not sure how, see our Q&A guide here. There is also still time to apply for a postal vote – the deadline is the following day (Wednesday 8th) by 5pm.

You can still register for a postal vote – but hurry!

Angeliki by post box

The local elections in Manchester this year are on Thursday 2nd May, and the polls are open from 7am to 10pm. If you may be away that day, or otherwise find it difficult to get to a polling station, why not register for a postal vote? But you need to be quick – the deadline is 5pm this Monday (15th April).

The Labour Party has prepared a simple online wizard to help you apply – you can find it here.

Angeliki launches her 2019 election campaign

On Sunday April 7th, Councillor Angeliki Stogia was joined by Afzal Khan MP and a group of local Labour supporters on a beautiful spring day in Alexandra Park, to launch her campaign for the local election to be held on Thursday 2nd May.

“Thank you to everyone who came along to help me kick off my campaign” said Angeliki. “There’s a lot of uncertainty and disillusionment with politics at the moment, especially to do with Brexit. But I don’t want to lose sight of the things that matter – listening to local residents, supporting local volunteers, and doing my best to make things better here in Whalley Range”.
