A very public row has broken out between Tory leadership rivals Kemi Badenoch and Suella Braverman. During a private CONservative Party Shadow Cabinet showdown over their General Election bludgeoning, Badenoch criticised the manner in which Rishi Sunak called the shock General Election without telling his Cabinet beforehand, and accused Braverman of having ‘A very public nervous breakdown’, comments which were later leaked to the press. Badenoch also said that some of her colleagues were failing to grasp the enormity of her party’s General Election mauling.
After her comments were reported by The Times, Badenoch stood by them, saying: ‘It was a shame the discussion had been leaked, and there needs to be a private space for CONservatives to discuss their challenges. In government, we had too much nodding along in the room and arguments outside it. That culture needs to change. We need to be honest with one another in private, and united in the direction we take afterwards.’
Braverman hit back on Twitter (X): ‘I’d be interested in knowing whether Kemi thinks I’m having a very public nervous breakdown’, adding the hashtag: ‘We don’t leak’. She later posted, ‘Kemi, and the rest of the cabinet, should not have nodded along, as they and Rishi took the party to disaster. The refusal to take responsibility is at the root of our problem. It was not someone else’s fault.’
Opinion: Oh dear… It’s all VERY unsavoury! Labour needs effective Parliamentary opposition, but after breaking apart the United Kingdom during their 14 year rule, the Tories are now trying to break each other, as all out war ensues over the future control of the CONservative party. Farage must be loving this! His plan of action to take over the Tory party is ticking along very nicely!
Badenoch vs Braverman! The battle for the tory party leadership. oh dear…
