Working together to tackle anti-social behaviour in Whalley Range

In recent weeks, residents in Whalley Range have raised concerns about an increase in anti-social behaviour (ASB) around Alness Road and Withington Road — including reports of street disturbances and nuisance behaviour. To help coordinate local action, Cllr Angeliki Stogia has brought together the Council, Greater Manchester Police (GMP), and SSG Sustainable Living to strengthen joint working and ensure local issues are tackled quickly and effectively.

There have also been a number of residents’ meetings to hear concerns first-hand, and most recently, a Police drop-in advice surgery held at SSG Sustainable Living on Alness Road, which gave residents a further opportunity to speak directly with local officers and raise any local issues. SSG Sustainable Living, funded by Manchester City Council, provides A Bed Every Night (ABEN) and housing-related support for single people, as well as operating temporary accommodation in the area. The session also provided a chance for partners to discuss practical steps to maintain safety and support residents.

Councillor Angeliki Stogia said:

“It’s been really valuable to hear directly from residents about what they are seeing and experiencing in our neighbourhood. Tackling anti-social behaviour and making Whalley Range a cleaner, safer, and stronger place takes all of us — the Council, Greater Manchester Police, SSG, and residents — working together. I am encouraged that, following recent meetings and ongoing engagement, residents are already seeing improvements and that these issues are receiving the attention they deserve. My focus is on turning local concerns into real action and visible results.”

Residents are encouraged to report any concerns about ASB:

  • 📞Greater Manchester Police via 101 (or 999 in an emergency)
  • 🕵️‍♀️Anonymously through Crimestoppers
  • 📩 Or by contacting Cllr Angeliki Stogia directly, to ensure issues are logged and followed up

Councillor Angeliki Stogia will continue to work closely with Manchester City Council, GMP, local partners to ensure residents’ concerns on ASB are properly addressed — helping to keep Whalley Range a welcoming, cleaner, healthier and safer community for everyone.
