Over 100 volunteers came out in force on Friday 4th April for the Great British Spring Clean in Whalley Range and Moss Side – and what a day it was!
There were several litter-picking stations and stalls set up along Claremont Road and by Alexandra Park, making it easy for people to join in wherever they were. Volunteers collected hundreds of bags of litter, helping to create cleaner, greener spaces across Whalley Range and Moss Side.
The Whalley Range team was proud to be part of a national campaign, joining hundreds of groups across the country who rolled up their sleeves to keep Britain tidy – and we’re sharing our highlights now as a belated but very well-deserved shoutout to everyone involved.
Over the course of the day, hundreds of bags of litter were collected in the area. The event was made possible thanks to an amazing network of community members, organisations and volunteers, including:
- Amazon volunteers
- Markerstudy
- The Claremont Pub
- MSV (Mosscare St Vincent’s)
- Arawak Walton
- One Manchester
- Members of British hip hop and garage collective So Solid Crew
- Radio Diamond / One Manchester
- Manchester City Council Parks & Neighbourhoods teams
- Biffa Social Value
- And a special mention to the Bowes Street Residents Group, who continue to show brilliant leadership on local clean-up efforts
Cllr Aftab Razaq, one of the organisers, said “It was fantastic to see such a wide mix of people taking part – local residents, businesses, music artists, housing associations and more. Everyone brought their passion to make our area cleaner and greener. The difference made in just one day was incredible.”
Cllr Angeliki Stogia added “This wasn’t just about tidying streets – it was about making a statement that our environment matters, and that everyone has a part to play in caring for it. The day captured the spirit of Whalley Range and Moss Side – proud, proactive, and full of community heart. We are grateful to every single person who gave up their time.”
The day showed what’s possible when we work together – not just cleaner streets, but stronger relationships and renewed pride in our shared spaces.
