New age-friendly benches installed across Whalley Range

Six new age-friendly benches have been installed across Whalley Range, making it easier for residents to rest, meet others and move around the neighbourhood with confidence.

The benches are located at:

  • College Road (corner of Burford Road / College Road, and outside the British Muslim Heritage Centre)
  • Wellington Road
  • Alexandra Road South (outside Alexandra Park fence)
  • Range Road

The locations were identified in partnership with the Whalley Range Age Friendly Group, our community-led network of residents and volunteers who work to make our area more inclusive for people aged 50 and over. The Whalley Range Age Friendly Group aims to support social connection, accessibility and a stronger voice for older people in local decision-making.

Cllr Aftab Razaq said:
“It’s great to see these benches in place. They are a simple addition, but they will make a real difference for people getting out and about in Whalley Range.”

Cllr Angeliki Stogia said:
“Creating an age-friendly Whalley Range means finding practical ways to make our streets and spaces work better for people’s everyday lives. These benches are about dignity, independence and connection, ensuring that everyone, regardless of age or mobility, can feel confident and included in our neighbourhood. I would like to thank the Whalley Range Age Friendly Group for their support in shaping where the benches are located.”
