Cllr Mary Watson with Cllr Andrew Fender at the opening of St Werburgh’s Road Metrolink station Whalley Range Councillors are keen to reduce problems on our local roads. “We know from our surgeries and talking to local people that the effect of traffic is a big concern for our residents” says Councillor Mary Watson.
Since the opening of the Metrolink to East Didsbury (see picture) our residents are within ten minutes walk of a regular tram or bus service. Better alternative transport means fewer road users overall, which also helps those who must travel by car. “I’m pushing for extra tram coaches at busy times”, says Mary. “and while we’re at it, let’s make our roads safer for cyclists too”.
Labour supports the 20’s Plenty campaign – a number of streets in the area already have speed limits of 20mph. Mary adds “Our Labour team will be campaigning for people to pledge to keep to the new limit.”
