Whalley Range Labour - Cromwell Avenue Community Street Event

Active Streets Event Brings Community Together

On the 8th of August, Councillor Angeliki Stogia and Councillor Muqaddasah Bano visited an Active Street event on Cromwell Avenue in Whalley Range. The initiative was organised by Whalley Range Youth Opportunities, MCR Active, and Mosscare St Vincents Housing.

The event was bustling with activities and sports, free bike repairs and energy-saving advice from the Carbon Co-op. The neighbourhood team as well as Biffa‘s engagement team was also present, providing advice on waste disposal, recycling and reducing our impact on the environment.

These events bring together services such as waste and recycling, street cleansing and sports, aimed at strengthening neighbourhood bonds and creating new connections within the community. The atmosphere was lively, with smiles all around and residents of all ages enjoying the car-free environment.

Cllr. Angeliki Stogia who attended the event said: “We are looking forward to having more active streets in Whalley Range. Seeing so many happy faces and chatting with residents really highlights the positive impact of such initiatives.”

Cllr. Muqaddasah Bano, remarked: “Events like these are a testament to the strength and unity of our community, and I look forward to more opportunities to bring everyone together.”

Events like these demonstrate the potential for streets to be more than just thoroughfares for traffic but vibrant spaces for community interaction and active living. If you are interested in finding out more, or helping to organise an active street, get in touch with one of the Councillors.
