With warm weather drawing more people outdoors, our parks in Whalley Range are seeing a welcome rise in visitors — and with that comes a greater need to manage litter and maintain clean, safe spaces for everyone to enjoy.
Cllr Angeliki Stogia recently met with a cleaning contractor in Alexandra Park to thank them and to talk about how we are stepping up cleaning arrangements for the summer months.
Cllr Angeliki Stogia said “Our green spaces are vital for wellbeing, especially in the summer when so many families are out enjoying the sunshine. We are working hard behind the scenes to keep bins emptied and the park litter picked, but we also rely on the community to do their bit — if a bin is full, please take your litter home.”
Here’s what’s in place to help keep our parks clean:
- Alexandra Park: Bins are emptied daily over the weekend by an external contractor, who also litter picks. Community Payback teams also support litter picking when needed. During the week, the park’s grounds team empties bins and carries out litter picking, though this can be more challenging during busy periods.
- Manley Park: Bins are emptied three times a week, including once at the weekend. During warmer weekends, bins will be emptied more often.
Residents are encouraged to help by taking litter home if bins are full, and reporting any problem areas via the Council’s parks maintenance page. These reports help the team prioritise areas that need urgent attention during high-traffic days.
Together, we can all play a part in keeping our parks welcoming for everyone.
